Work was becoming too hectic for a young police officer named Gary. About seven weeks ago I heard about a twenty-two-year-old woman named Rachael who is bipolar and who is also addicted to alcohol and drugs. I remember reading that under such circumstances, an individual needs to get treatment for both medical problems and that mental health problems and dependency frequently take place in the same person. Moreover, I recollect hearing that a history of negative drinking, drug abuse, and/or mental health problems commonly happen in the same family.

Obviously, Rachael is so dejected by both of her medical issues and by her spirituality problems that she, for all intents and purposes, has no impetus to complete much of anything. What is particularly sad about this is that earlier in her life, Rachael finished two years of college. The Need For a Doctor She Trusts and a Counseling Program She Can Believe In

If I were in contact with Rachael I could suggest quite a lot of websites that could possibly help her find info about addiction and alcoholic behavior, pertinent substance abuse information, facts about alcoholism and drugs, and more information about addiction symptoms and alcoholism warning signs. In my honest opinion, however, Rachael needs to find a physician she trusts and a counseling program she can believe in and follow over the long term. I would think that Rachael needs to accept the fact that there is completely nothing helpful about excessive and unhealthy drinking and chemical dependency and that involving herself in one or both situations is the map to financial difficulties, shattered relationships, poor work and school performance, legal problems, deteriorating health, and a premature death.

The Relevance of Support Groups Such as Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous

There are more likely than not a lot of persons such as family members, other individuals, and friends who would like to help Rachael but she probably would experience greater tolerance from a recovery group such as Narcotics Anonymous or Alcoholics Anonymous instead of listening to individuals who rarely drink or who have never abused drugs.

When Individuals Do Things They Love and About Which They Are Passionate

There’s a school of thought in life that contends that people who accomplish things they love and something about which they are fervent arrive at a magnificent place in life. Stated differently, when people do what they love, they almost never experience an uneventful life or boredom. If they get involved in something that is enjoyable, furthermore, they become more whole and experience more satisfaction and joy in life.

To me, this sounds quite a bit different from a life that is rooted in alcohol and drug dependency because such a lifestyle removes the pleasure and delight that life offers.

Because Rachael doesn’t have the resolve to achieve much of anything in her life, it is evident that she definitely needs some hope for a better life. And the unfortunate thing is that hope is virtually everywhere around Rachael if she could only get to the place in life to get the counseling she requires for her manic depression and chemical dependency and remain in her treatment program.

A Stronger Sense of Spirituality, Constructive Change, Self Respect, and a Wonderful Life Are a Reality

Rachael is simply too young to be crushed in life. She doesn’t comprehend this at the moment but if she can learn how to refrain from alcohol and drugs via alcohol and drug rehab and get the counseling she needs for her bipolar condition, she can redirect her life and start living with self-respect, passion, and direction.

A stronger sense of spirituality, positive change, self esteem, and a wonderful life are certainly possibilities for Rachael if only she could become inspired to get the professional rehab she requires, follow through with her therapy regimen, live her life in a healthy and dependency-free manner, and cultivate a more positive attitude about her life.

Wendy was the mother of two children. Wendy had been feeling quite tense lately and started to “medicate” herself by having three or four glasses of wine each evening after she tucked her children into bed. After just about five months of this drinking routine, she at long last realized that instead of helping her ”lighten up” and cope with her problems, drinking made her feel less restful when she awakened. This, in turn, made her feel more anxious all through the day.

After thinking about her “condition” for several days, Wendy made up her mind to discuss her drinking problem with her best friend. How many individuals get injured or lose their lives in alcohol related traffic accidents every year? How many individuals face serious consequences in their lives because they received a DWI conviction? How many individuals lose their lives every year because of drinking problems? On an annual basis, how many alcoholics fail to get the professional alcohol treatment they require? How many children are born each year with fetal alcohol syndrome? How many individuals lose their lives each year from a condition that is one hundred percent preventable, such as alcohol poisoning? How many people’s lives are cut short due to irresponsible and destructive drinking? How many junior high, high school, and college students lose their lives every year due to an alcohol overdose? How many people are the victims of alcohol related violence or crime each and every year?

Why Would Anyone Want to Drink in an Irresponsible and Hazardous Manner?

So what’s the point in asking these questions? Basically to highlight the devastating and destructive nature of hazardous and excessive drinking. Indeed, and based on the above questions, I wonder why anyone would choose to drink in a hazardous and irresponsible manner.

Stated differently, with the host of employment issues, financial problems, legal proceedings, relationship difficulties, and health dilemmas that are associated with chronic alcohol abuse and alcohol addiction, why would any person with a good sense of logic want to drink in an excessive and hazardous manner? If truth be told when some of the above topics are put under the microscope more closely, hazardous and excessive drinking becomes more illogical and makes even less sense.

Wouldn’t you think that chronic alcohol abusers would be able to see some of the alcohol symptoms that they display? In a similar manner doesn’t it seem logical to think that more families would involve themselves in an alcohol intervention for the person in the household who is an alcohol abuser or an alcoholic? Not only this but wouldn’t you think that people who drink excessively would try to learn more about their drinking behavior by researching various alcohol related statistics?

After reviewing the alcohol dependency and alcohol abuse research findings, the point is so significant that it needs to be stated again: With all of the dangerous and debilitating effects that are directly or indirectly interlinked with continuous and repetitive alcoholism and alcohol abuse, why would any person want to engage in unhealthy and excessive drinking?

What Can be Done About the Pervasive Nature of Alcohol Dependency and Alcohol Abuse in the United States?

So what can be done about the pervasive nature of alcohol abuse and alcohol dependency in our country?

  1. Our students need more meaningful and more relevant preventative and educational methods and approaches so that more students at all grade levels, including those at college, are “reached.
  2. With a similar line of thought, our students need to learn how to become problem solvers in life rather than getting easily attracted to the “instant gratification” and the “quick fix” of an alcohol or drug abuse ”high” or “buzz”.
  3. Individuals who are alcohol addicts or alcohol abusers need to look look at themselves candidly and ask why they are not getting the professional alcohol treatment they require.
  4. Society needs to get the message to more people about the damaging and destructive effects of excessive drinking.

There’s Room For Optimism if Those Who Engage in Hazardous and Abusive Drinking Can Become Encouraged to Get the Alcohol Rehab They Need

There’s room for optimism and hope if people can start drinking in moderation and those who engage in careless and excessive drinkingcan become motivated to get the alcohol rehab they require. Indeed, why put your loved ones through pain, suffering, and turmoil because of your careless and excessive drinking when you have the power to control your life by drinking in moderation or even stopping drinking if you cannot control your drinking behavior?

No one can give you a tin of unhappiness, or a bucket of joy. These things are not physical items that can be passed from person to person. They are intangible items that exist only in ourselves. In fact just the other day I was at a wedding. I told one of my friends how wonderful she looked and how much I liked her outfit. She leapt to the conclusion that I was being sarcastic and chose to be offended by what was a genuine compliment. Had I even been being sarcastic, she could have chosen to be complimented and replied with a, I’m glad you like it and felt better about herself. There was a guy I knew when I was younger. He was short, balding, spotty and he had been short changed in the looks department. Yet whenever we went out to bars, he'd wander up to any pretty woman and start talking to her. If she turned him down, he’s shrug his shoulders and continue. I don’t think it ever even occurred to him to feel bad about these rejections. He’d just smile and say, hour loss?and move on to the next one. Believe it or not, each of you are in control of yourself and how you feel. You can choose to feel anyway you want. Right now, you could choose to feel happy; or I am sure you could choose to feel sad. Just by thinking about it, you could change how you feel. It’s almost magic isn’t it? So what about choosing how you feel when you are interacting with other people?

The vast majority of people run on auto-pilot. They allow their body and mind to more or less get on with it, not worrying too much about the programs that are running or the condition of it. It doesn't interfere with them too much so they allow it to get on with it. It’s like watching all the cars driving around a city and not realising there is someone inside controlling them. Most people have forgotten there is this person?inside of them controlling them. If you choose, you can take back control of how you feel and stop relying on other people to meet certain conditions. When you go to the office and someone says, food Morning?to you, you can choose to grumble and mutter, There’s nothing good about it.?Or, you can choose to reply in kind and say, it’s a fantastic morning. That is, you can choose to feel bad or choose to feel good. Which do you prefer? Realise that you are the only person who can make you feel anything and stop allowing the people around you to make you feel bad. Decide to feel good and enjoy yourself.

With the amount of success strategies around it is easy to become overwhelmed. In fact, there are so many that lots of people spend so much time reading about the different ones that they never really get around to implementing any of them.

The thing is, that pretty much all success strategies are, essentially, based around two words, and once you know what they are, and what the real meaning of them is, then any strategy that you choose to implement can bring you success.

So then, what are those two words? One is action, and the other is tenacity.

Action can be broken down into two parts. You first need to establish the right type of action to take, and you then need to follow fully through with that action - nothing short of 100% effort, no holds barred, action will suffice.

It is no good sitting at home thinking about what action needs to be taken, you need to be out there following through with it. A great quote to bear in mind is this “Every person who has ever slept knows what it is to dream. It is the person who gets out of bed and takes action on that dream who will know success”.

Now, lets move on to the second word - tenacity. This means that once you set your sights on something, you need to chase it for as long as is necessary to get your hands on and, once you have your hands on it, you need to never let go of it.

I am not talking about a blinkered approach here, as if you go headlong charging blindly towards your dream, blinkers on, no peripheral vision, you will as likely to charge straight past your target as it comes hurtling towards you as you will be to get your hands on it.

A quote fits nicely in here - “Success seems to be largely a matter of holding on after others have let go”.

This means that there will always be lots of people going after the same opportunities and, normally, only a handful, maybe even just one, can succeed. If you want that to be you, then you have to keep at it longer and harder than the others that you are competing against.

The setting of goals, and then working hard and smart to achieve them, is a significant habit that separates the 5% of people who are in successful in life from the 95% who are not.
